Gilbert van Ryckevorsel, a well known marine photographer and artist from Nova Scotia, has spent over 30 years exploring the depths of Atlantic Ocean and Northern Canadian wilderness rivers, becoming personally acquainted with the mysterious creatures that dwell there. Whales, bluefin tuna, swordfish, lobster, Atlantic Salmon...these are the marine inhabitants that have given Gilbert his lifelong inspiration.

Over the past 30 years, his unique talents of communicating with and photographing underwater creatures have allowed Gilbert to share his aquamarine experience with land-dwellers all over the world. His photos have appeared in publications such as National Geographic, Equinox, and The Atlantic Salmon Journal; his videography on television in North America and Europe, on CBC and BBC programs. His unique marine art has opened the eyes of environmentalists all over the world to the pristine quality of Atlantic Canadian waters and the importance of keeping it this way for creatures such as the Atlantic Salmon.

Today, his lifelong inspiration has led to a new form of art: Eco-Time Rocks, which also feature the most prominent of endangered marine wildlife of the North Atlantic.

Gilbert, a native of the Netherlands, resides in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia with his family and dogs. He is Past President of the Photographic Guild of Nova Scotia.
